Benefits Of Having A Doula
The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “woman who serves.” Quite literally, a doula hired for your birth is there to serve you, the mother, and support you and your family in any way she can.
When desired, a doula can completely free the dad-to-be from coaching tasks — he can enjoy the process and focus on supporting you emotionally.
A doula provides education as well as physical and emotional support to the pregnant woman and her family before, during, and after pregnancy. While doulas are not primary caregivers, many pregnant women rely on doulas throughout the pregnancy period to help them sort through their choices to make their own informed decisions.
Doulas understand pregnancy and childbirth as a normal part of life, not a pathological condition requiring treatment. Doulas often focus on supporting the natural birth process and advocate for the mother to create a birth plan in the hospital environment. This does not mean doulas are anti-intervention, they focus more on education so the family can utilize those informed decisions for the best possible outcome regardless of what the Mom decides. Many doulas are comfortable in a hospital setting, even in the event of a cesarean.
Act as a medical professional, psychologist, or other mental health professionals
Perform any clinical tasks such as checking or interpreting fetal heart tones, checking cervix for dilation or effacement, taking blood pressure, suggesting medications

reduce the overall Cesarean birth rate by 50%
reduce the length of labor by 25%
reduce Pitocin use by 40%
reduce the need for forceps delivery by 40%
reduce requests for epidural pain relief by 60%
decrease negative childbirth experiences and trauma

Jennifer was the biggest blessing during my labor!!!
Jennifer was the biggest blessing during my labor!!! She is GIFTED at supporting women, and I will be forever thankful that she supported me during my labor. I would highly recommend her to anyone that wants support in their pregnancy, labor, and birth.
Jenn was simply amazing. My wife and I reached out to Doula In Reno once we knew we wanted to have a home birth. Being out of state to start, Jenn was accommodating and extremely helpful as we transitioned our lives into Nevada. Jenn went out of her way and met with my us several times before our due date. She was available at all time to answer out questions. When labor did finally arrive, Jenn was very quick to help and was a tremendous guide throughout. Her experience really showed that early morning. No doubt, I would 100% recommend Doula In Reno. Jenn was attentive, caring, insightful, overall a pleasure to work with. Thank you for everything Jenn!
Jenn was a great addition to our birth team! My husband and I had a planned home birth and knew that we wanted the guidance of a doula (that being said, I would recommend hiring Jenn as a doula for a hospital birth as well). When we were first looking to hire a doula we were living out of state and remained out of state for most of the pregnancy. Jenn was super helpful and accommodating for us. She would reach out to me frequently via text to check in and make sure that we were doing well. Jenn was very informative, supportive, and caring throughout the whole process. She answered all the questions we had and gave good suggestions. She helped both myself and my husband feel more comfortable with the labor and birthing process. When Jenn arrived at the birth, she jumped right in and was helping support me through labor as well as helping my husband in supporting me. I felt so well taken care of with Jenn as a part of my birth team. I would definitely recommend hiring Jenn! She was such a pleasure to work with. Thank you for making the birth of our first baby amazing, Jenn!
I worked with Jenn in 2019. It was a blast: Jenn is curious, energetic, compassionate, and considerate, making the personal experience a fun and interesting one. Jenn cares a lot about the people she works with her and spends so much time creating work that can inspire and help others; it’s what she’s driven to do, and she’s really good at it.
One of my highest values is authenticity, and Jenn embodies that to the nth degree! Her willingness and vulnerability to express deep interest and care in the lives of others is refreshing and inspiring 🙂
